As the librarian working in the same school district for 16 years, it is very easy to get isolated from others that are doing the same thing as you and striving for the same goals. When I was a Kindergarten & Pre-Kindergarten teacher in the classroom, I had my team, but as a librarian, I am the only one on campus. This is why the Call To Action video is so powerful to me. It reminds me that I am not alone in my quest to implement makerspaces into the library environment. Educators and librarians from all over the world in both public libraries and educational settings are on a mission to not just change libraries, but to make them a relevant learning environment for their patrons and students.

Change for the sake of change is never a good idea. This is why research, such as this literature review, is important before and during the implementation of such a project as makerspaces. My previous literature review focused on implementing makerspaces into the public school library and how they could be a catalyst for reshaping the function of the library.
This literature review looks at the work done by public libraries as well as school libraries in the United States and abroad. It also examines the the barriers and future study needed for successful implementation. |
